I have a Detroit in the rear of mine for about a month & it has only unlocked twice. I can tell cause when I make a turn & it locks back in I get a loud "bang!". Other than that I have leaned to drive with it. I make sure I coast around corners when possible, other wise I get the normal light tire screeching & cops in my area are  :moon: 's & give tickets for exhibition of speed. Other than that I say go for it. I have an Aussie but I going to put that in the front.

you can only buy Aussie from the source. www.torqmasters.com IIRC.

FWIW, I DD with a Detroit. It's no big deal, as lone as you remember that if you get stupid, it will lock on you. I  mine just for the looks I get from people when it pops. :yikes: (which isn't very often)

I have no issues with My aussie in mine.   Just a little different driving style around slow speed sharp corners, like parking lots and such.  and I love the clicking it makes.

Other than that I say go for it. I have an Aussie but I going to put that in the front.

The loud "bang" your describing is simply the result of the locker getting pushed together without the teeth being meshed.  This happens when you change speed while turning causing the rear axles to turn at different rates.  The "bang" is the result of the teeth snapping back to being meshed rather than just being held together with a clamping force creating friction.  The Detroit locks and unlocks as torque is applied so every time you let off the gas it unlocks and when you apply throttle it locks.  If this wasn't true, your tires would drag around every corner since they would be forced to travel at the same speed along different arc lengths.  Detroits tend to "bang" less with an automatic transmission because there is a more constant power transfer that with a manual transmission where the clutch is disengaged.

I run Detroit rear and Aussie front.  If I had known about the Aussie when I did the rear locker I would have saved the money and put one in.  :twocents:
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

I was also wondering about the road manners of the aussie locker, as soon as I get the rest of the $$$ from selling my car I am going to put one in the rear of my truck. Not tryin to jack the thread, but anyone have any install tips and pics to post up? I just like to know what I may be gettin into so my truck isn't down for too long. I hear it is pretty easy to install but I have heard I may need to clearance my carrier to fit it in, any pics of this would be nice. Thanks again
