Will a 96 V-6 third fit in a 85 front axle
« on: Sep 30, 2008, 08:59:30 PM »
I have found a deal on a V-6 third out of a 95 V-6 truck and I want to install it in my 85 front axle. Before I find out that I have a problem I have never considered, I thought I would ask around and see if any one has done this swap before. Any problem with axles, fit, or drivelines? What about the rear axle housing? I think I might do this same upgrade to my rear axle, anyone have problems with this?
Thanks for your time.

yes it will fit.  Its tight, you MAY have to do a tiny bit of clearancing, but not much, and prolly not any.  No problem bolting up to anything.  As for the rear, the rear housing in IFS vehicles is actually wider and stronger than the SA trucks, so you may just want to swap the whole housing in, instead of just the third.  But even just the third will fit.

Im confused is it a 95 or 96? The 95 will work but the 96 will not.
