What is a good price for an 85 front Axle ? I'm noob!

I don't need Birfields, I have 30 splines going in.

Here on the east coast they go for $200-250 for a complete front axle.

I found a complete 85 front axle for $300, but I don't need the brakes, steering etc because I bought a hy steer and new brakes with my swap kit.  Is this too much??

Might as well add a rebuild/knuckle service kit into your budget.  You'll need it...

yup.  I paid 200 for my axle, but it needed to to be gone through.  Check it out.  $300 isn't too bad if the axle has recently been rebuilt.  Otherwise, offer him $250 and go from there.

   i paid $150  for my last axle,  got a good straight but empty housing a while back for $75

I just found a good straight empty housing for 10 dollars, but you would still need all the inners.

what are things you should look for when buying an axle from a junkyard? (like checking if its straight and the lockout hubs work and all that)

the axle that i'm puttin under my truck came from a 85 sr5 reg cab, the truck has some serious holes in the frame so i'm just going to cut it up. i bought the hole truck for 300$ up here in PA, good motor and drive train. but i'm going to rebuild the whole front axle anyway just to be safe and throw in a v6 third with 5.29s in it then it going under my 95

 I  Just found on on Craigslist last night in Clackamas Oregon out of a 1985 4Runner the guy only wants 100 for the whole thing, including the third.  go to this link, he still may have it.

I scavenge a u-pull-it yard here in NC and when I can find them (have found 2 so far)  I pull em and carry them out for $40.  it's few and far between but anything you can physically carry out unassisted is $40 here.

but $250 for a ready to go 85 front is alright

    i bought my 84 4runner for $450. and plan on parting it out and keeping the axle, i think I'm either gonna get my money back or make profit lol.

It seems like it depends on where you live.  I've seen front axles for $150-200 all around the country, but in California it seems 200 is a good deal and 250-300 is more the norm.  But then again, I'm about to pick one up for $150 but that's a friend's deal...
