Need Motor Advice
« on: Jul 16, 2004, 10:08:50 AM »
I am perty sure that my motor went south last night on the way to the 2nd bar..... :smack following theses girls :ladys-man:...motor started loosing power, gave them a call and decided to let it cool down. I might have just blown a head gasket, will check here in a bit and let ya'll know, but anyways after all....I kinda want to get in a vortec v-6, 22re or something along those lines. My Question to ya'll is ...What is the best motor to swap in to replace my 22r w/only 225,000 miles. I drive this thing every day, everyweekend it sees heavy trail use and runs 5.29, 36 swampers, etc. Let me know what ya'll thinks - thanks, Ryan :crossed:

Me thinks the Vortec would be a good idea...wont be as cheap as the 22RE...but it wont be that big ol difference on the price but it will on the power  and I hope you learned your lesson...girls are evil ( :joke: ) If you do a Vortec swap it would be really nice  :crossed:

I would like to stay toyota, but I can get a 99 vortec 4.3 for a mere $100 smackers..but then there are tranny issues, etc wiring blah, blah and more $.  How hard is it to swap over to a 22re motor from a 22r? What all stuff do I need other than the wiring, etc.? and what do you think the best donor vehicle is for a swap ?

I have alot of blowby...and it ended up being that the cat was clogged with shi@t....so I tore it off and it runs fine...but I am looking to to a 22re swap as soon as I find a donor truck - Thanks , Ryan

My timing somehow got bumped like 15 deg. one time, the motor leaned way out and melted the inside of the cat. Pulled it off, retimed and a new 02 sensor latr, all good. I hate cats, there useless (the animal too).

Well if your motor is a 84 22R or newer , the head should be drilled for a EFI intake so all you have to do is just bolt it on
