Found a 1993 4runner with a blown 3.0
« on: Jun 25, 2008, 10:46:53 PM »
The head is trashed and the warp age is beyond repair so the engine is trashed, but everything else is pristine.

My question is what kinda prices are you finding on replacement 3.0's?

Can you swap a 22re into it with ease?

Any other options that will not take all the money out of my pocket........? :beerchug:

3.0 engines are getting cheaper but you'll still pay $1000 + for one that has already had the headgasket work done.  If it hasen't been done the it will need to be before it gets installed.   The 22re is not woth swapping in because the wiring is all different as are the placement of the motor mounts.  The transmission won't bolt up, etc.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

you would be better off swaping in a 3.4v6 cause from what i read on offroadsolutions site you can use some parts off the 3.0 v6

I like both of these ideas. I would either do the 3.4 or a 302.

i am buying a rebuilt 2000 miles ago 3.0 V6 for my 90 runner, for $1200 delivered to my house, but i was quoted form a few different shops from $1500-$2000 for an engine. i think your best bet would be to check with an engine importer.

EDIT: actually the cheapest i was quoted on an engine was $1275 from a place that parts out wrecked Toyotas.

If you're looking for under a grand, I'd start checking your local craigslist, or wrecking yards. Thats pretty much the only way to find one under a grand

engine importers are a scam! they are not the engien they are advertised to be... those engines are disposable, not easily rebuildable, hence why they were tossed out to begin with....

look @ the supposed 22r engine.... you get from an importer... it is not a 22r but a 21ru and is not as powerful as the 22r

Not always, though.  The thing is that it's a real engine from Toyota.  Just Japan has smog laws that are the same for all years as the newest models. (zero leeway for age!) So most engines can only be run for a few years before they pollute too much and the whole thing has to be replaced(ouch).  This is still cheaper than a whole new car.(costs about 4-6K a year to own a car in Japan in taxes, repairs, and other fees last I checked)

Since Japan tends to have slow road speeds and few drivers that commute for any real distance(trains instead), you get 5K a year tops on most of the engines.

A buddy of mine is pulling his 3.0 out of a truck to replace it with a 3.4.  I bet he'd be willing to sell the 3.0 after he pulls it (sometime this week).

Let me know.

I talked to him tonight.  He just got it out of the engine bay yesterday.  I think he was looking to get $1000 for the entire engine, minus the parts he needs to get his 3.4 working.

I've got the engine out.  Give me a call about it. 602-568-1985.
