Windows XP Users: Have you upgraded to SP3?
« on: May 08, 2008, 03:36:52 PM »
I don't know why but I am nervous to do this.

XP was faster under SP1 (of course far less secure) and I can't help but wonder if my system won't be the same under SP3 (just released yesterday).

If you've upgraded to SP3, I am curious how it's going!

Thanks
Mike

I've been running SP2... I didn't know SP3 was even released yet

Been running it for a day now, no problems.  I read about it, and basically it is just all the cumulative updates since SP2 bundled into one, plus a few more things.  No difference seen here yet.

Make sure you have IE7 on your computer first before installing SP3.  For some reason it won't install after SP3 installation. there really isn't much difference in SP3.  It more or less just installs all of the security patches and updates since SP2 was released.

Personally, I see no reason to install it.   My SP2 works fine for me. You know, I am ALMOST gonna go back to win98 just to have the accessibility in DOS and a few other reasons...but then I can't go to a 64 bit processor....so...yeah.

I don't like what I've seen of Vista, and I imagine with the changes that SP2 made, SP3 would be even worse.

That is excellent because IE7, just like IE-anyversion, SUCKS MONKEY BALLS.

baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea unless you manually check for security updates on a weekly basis. I have updates enabled, but I only have "notify" enabled, so it won't download anything on its own, I like controlling what updates I want.

I did the SP3 upgrade. Before, I always used the address bar on the taskbar to open internet sites. now every time I shut the computer down, the address bar is gone, and it is no longer on the list of available toolbars. Kinda aggrivating, cause I'm used to it always being there.
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Build it, break it, fix it, repeat until your wallet is empty.

IE7.

Once I figured out how to find the address bar (complicated), I can put it on the taskbar, and it will stay there. when I shut it down and restart the comp., it's gone again!

Did it last night.

Address bar works with IE6.

The software that came with my wireless card no longer works, had to reinstall card without their software, but got it to work...........
