YJ Clutch Master Cylinder
« on: May 21, 2006, 11:02:15 PM »
My Girlfriend just purchased a jeep and the next day the master cylinder for the clutch went out and stranded her.  I replaced it and it worked for a few days and now it is hard to get into gear and if you have it in gear and the clutch is depressed at a stoplight and you give it gas it slowly moves forward.  You think there is just some more air in the system that moved around from driving for a few days or maybe the new master cylinder took out the slave cylinder?

there might be air in it, it could be leaking as well. How is the fluid level?  But, yes, the master could have killed the slave.  I try to replace both at once if possible.

my old YJ used to leak and I would have to fill it up once a month or so.  it always did, no matter what I did...  maybe the slave is bad, whice would suck because its a internal...

check the connector in the line leading into the slave cylinder. i just replaced my internal slave and that connector can get screwy if it isn't sealing  you can bend out the little pins inside the connector so it will grab the line better. f.y.i. that hose from the clutch resivuor to the slave is about $140 so pray thats not whats wrong.

Attach hose to clutch bleed screw and immerse end of hose in container partially filled with clutch fluid.
Open bleed screw, then fill clutch master cylinder reservoir until fluid is free of air bubbles.
Close bleed screw, then check clutch pedal freeplay, if freeplay exceeds 1/2 inch proceed to step 4.
Open bleed screw, then depress clutch pedal to floor.
Tighten bleed screw.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until fluid entering container is free of air. Check and fill reservoir, as needed, to ensure no air is drawn into system during bleeding.

this is for 89 yj 4.2 >>????
