Clutch Master Cylinder or Slave
« on: Jun 16, 2008, 01:38:40 PM »
Just got my Fj40 (1972) on the road, drove about 100 miles and parked it last night. This morning the clutch petal went to the floor with ease cannot shift, no fluid has leaked. What is my problem besides not knowing?

If there isn't any fluid leaked out, that usually means the master.

Although when the master goes, there is usually some seepage where the rod goes into the cylinder...........

Is it a time consuming mess to replace both? I've called a few places and either they are discontinued or around a 100 bucks just for the master. Any suggestions on where to go?

Try rockauto for the part.

The master is easier than the slave, but both are fairly easy.

How many miles on each?    You might be better off replacing both so you don't have to worry about it.

Well I took it apart and the fuild was brown and the slave cylinder had some rust inside, instead of rebuilding I purchased a new one. I will wait and see if I need a new master.

It was the slave and I've been cruising around. Just wish gas would go down! :beerchug:
