83 into 81 sr5 cluster swap?
« on: Jul 06, 2007, 11:49:28 AM »
i read alot of tech on this swap, and you guys know whats up,but heres my question.
the cluster that came out of my 81 has a tach and idiot lights and the plugs in the back are ROUND.
the 83 sr5 cluster that i bought has SQUARE connectors.
man i was hoping for an easy plug n play but that just never happens.
do i splice in or can i pull the wires out of the round connectors and plug em where they go in the square conn's.i did find that link that tells you the number and color wire that does what.that link is gonna be a huge help.
what do you think.

I have a 83 SR5 cluster with part of the harness for easy splicing. You should have bought it from me.

I think you can you just need to push that little clip/barb thingy down with a small screwdriver or anything and the wire should pull out.  Follow the diagram and compare it to the back of the cluster as you go and you should be ok.

But if he has the correct plugs he can switch the wires and plug it in no cutting/splicing.
