Suspension help???
« on: Mar 25, 2007, 09:29:57 AM »
I have an 83 toyota. I intend on doing the marlin 5 in springs in the front with shackles. I do not know what to do in the rear. The bed is bobbed and the frame is cut directly after the rear spring hanger. According to the specs, I will have to move sring hangers in the rear ( 4 in on the front and 2 in on the back). I do not have any room for the 2 in change on the rear hanger. The guy I bought this from said that there are cj-7 springs on it right now, I measured and they are 2.5 in wide. The springs are not right for the truck, they guy I got it from took these off of a spring under and set them on the toyota.  :smack:  Any ideas??? Does anyone know the width of toyota springs?

if its got a rear crossmember between the frame rails behind the stock shackle hangers you could mount them on there and have them go out as far as you need them.
got low range
95/91 pickup, 3in tuff country lif and a bunch of marlins stuff.

what size tires you running? 5 inch seems excessive for anything under 38's. you could plate the rear of the frame and fabricate a hangar that extends off the back? dunno

I will try to get a picture, I am running 33's, would a 4 in be big enough to go through most trails?

You could always move the front mount forward 5in instead of four and do a reverse banana shackle in the back. Thats what im goint to have to do.  :twocents:

Ditto.  You could probably run 33s without issue just by switching your top 2 leaves with the top 2 from a set of rears, maybe adding one leaf to help.  That shoulnd't net much lift if any, but will move the axle forward 2".  You can usually get away with 32s without even lifting the first gens.

i ran a 33/9.50 on my 1st gen for a while they dont rub all that much. If you go wider than a 9.50 without bs you'll rub on the springs.

that would put the axle an inch to far forward and you would have rubbing issues. you might be able to do it if you get the axle relocation plates to move the axle back to where its supposed to be. i would try to figure something else out though

:smack: i forgot about that i have a flatbed so i dont have that problem. id assume the relocation plates would work.
