Abandoned Vehicles
« on: Mar 21, 2007, 08:58:32 PM »
An abandoned vehicle appeared around here last week, and it's one that I really want, but I guess its illegal to just take it. It was abandoned by someone who clearly doesnt want it. But since I cant legally take it right now, would anyone be able to tell me if I could get it when it goes to the impound yard? Or just tell me what might happen to it. Thanks

grab it and go to your local tow yard and ask them about lien sale... you should be able to get on a lien sale title. I work for an auto auction and we get a lot of abandon cars. we just lein sale them. then take em home and drive on them or ... well you get the point.

Better check and see if it's stolen before you lay fingerprints on it :_oops:

There's a lot of mumbo jumbo in there, but you get the idea.

I would try to figure out who the owner is and see about getting legal transfer if they so are wanting to get rid of it. Tell them it will save them from being sited and charged storage in an impound lot when it gets towed.

Yeah, a lot of mumbo jumbo but basically you must be a police officer or a city worker or someone authorized be the city to pic up an abandond vehicle legally.

100% illegal to just take it, 1 you don't know if it is stolen or involved in some crime either. I'd contact the local authorities and have them pick it up. Then I'd contact the tow company that takes it and find out when it it will go to auction and that you are interested. Get the V.I.N. # before they take it so you can use it to refer to when calling the tow company.

a lien sale person calls for the title from the last reg owner... its legal as pie... there is always the option of pushing it on private property then claiming it as dump...  then there is the burning idea    :attention:
