Topic: 89 Mini Truck - Change out 5spd for Auto?

So is there any reason not to swap out the 5spd from my 89 mini truck v6 3.0 for the auto that came in the 89? I have a 4.7 Marlin behind my 5spd now and 4.1 in the diffs so I'm at 76 to 1. I'm thinking this can extend my ratio to near 100. I'm probably still going to add the Doubler eventually, which would get me to 173 to 1 plus whatever the auto adds. Thoughts?

Is the auto weak or will it hold up? And will the auto mate to the 4.7 marlin?

The auto wont work its the wrong one.  You'll need a later model trans.

why? The auto fhat came from a 89 v6 3.0 surely will fit the 89 that I have, right? So the 89 auto won't mate to the marlin?

Nope the tranny has the t-case built into it. Youd need an aute from 96 (?)+ in order to do that swap.
