motor mounts and dual cases ?
« on: Nov 30, 2006, 05:55:55 AM »
I just got my crawler box installed and now I want to upgrade the motor mounts so they don't get broke ? I found on Pirate 4x4 in the FAQ'S to drill and put a bolt all the way threw the mount and I actually have already done this, but me and a buddy where wondering if bolting this thing down solid was a good idea as he has already broken the ear off the frame where the motor mount bolts with his crawler ? any suggestions ?

I considered that option after destroying one of mine. For me the fix was chaining down the driver side mount.

hey bloom just put limit straps on the torque side and dont give it much room to moove. the bolt idea will work but if you dont have any room for give you will break stuff. (bad idea)

I use the chain technique, haven't lost that motor mount since I did it.  Need to do the passenger side still.

Can you use a bolt so that it doesnt completely eliminate movement of the motor mount?  (allows for some movement?)

I thought about doing just that maybe leaving an inch or half a inch of space so it could move alittle and weld the nut so I don't have to worry about it comming off ! I really rather just bolt it solid so it dont move ! when the engine moves it messes with my throttle cable ....

drill them and use nylock nuts and do not tighten them down tight so the rubber can still do its job. been running mine like this for years.

I chained my motor mounts down but the damn chain stretched out! If you chain them use a fairly thick high grade chain. Mine were as tight as I could get them now they are loose as hell  ::)
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

I just don't like the chain idea ? I have some small chains on it now but they aren't heavy enough to hold the motor continuosly . I like chains for back ups only is what I'm trying to say .
