Server (and hence Domain) was Down for apprx. 14 Hours
« on: Sep 29, 2006, 11:40:08 AM »
As you probably already know, our entire Domain was down, which knocked out WWW. and BOARD.  marlincrawler.com.

According to records, it went down sometime around 3:45pm Yesterday, then came back online breiefly around 10:30pm, and then went back off until about 6am this morning.

I was notified about this by Glen  at 4:16pm yesterday afternoon, to which I contacted our Host. Here are the recorded chat sessions I had with two technical help representitaves:

Mike: Yes, I am just wondering if you guys are experiencing downtime with host #*** ?
Alan K.: I apologize for the inconvenience. There is a slight network issue which is being resolved right now. We are aware of the issue and the system administrators are working on it to get it resolved. Please be assured that this will be resolved as soon as possible. Please be assured that it is been looked into and will be resolved very soon Thanks for your understanding and patience regarding this matter.
Mike: Thankyou very much, that is all. I have been contacted by customers who are not able to order parts from our website. Thankyou and have a nice day.
Alan K.: Thank you for contacting IPOWER Live Chat.
Alan K.: Good-bye.

Then I had to leave the house for the evening, and when I got back home after working at the shop, it was already after 1pm. I checked the website but it was still down. So I contacted them a second time, and here is the log from that:

Mike: Hello ?
Max T.: Thank you for contacting IPOWER Live Chat. How can I help you?
Max T.: I'll be happy to assist you.
Mike: Hello Max, I am wondering how the network problem is going?
Max T.: We do apologize for the inconvenience faced by you.
Max T.: Admins are aware of your server problem and there is some network issues. They are working on it.
Max T.: We have been advised that the problem has been isolated and that the issue would be solved soon. For quality's sake, our admins tend to spend a slightly longer time investigating the root cause of an issue to completely fix it, rather than merely applying a temporary/unsafe fix, we've taken every possible step to ensure that this does not happen again.
Mike: Ok Great, I really appriciate the fact that you have records of me asking about the status
Mike: Thankyou very much for working so hard to keep our website going
Max T.: Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Max T.: Good-bye.
Mike: Thankyou Max, I hope the problem can be fixed before business hours tomorrow (PST) as we use our website exclusively for business. Good Bye :-)
