timing on modified 85 efi
« on: Apr 10, 2004, 06:52:01 AM »
I tore this new 4runner apart yesterday and put a new cover, steel guide, timing set, oil pump and water pump in it.  It's running like a champ now but at one time I heard that if the MAS had been modified, the timing needs to be advanced more.  I initially set it about 5 btdc and got a little pinging.  I advanced it a little more by ear while out on the road and it has tons of power.  If it's running good leave it or do I need to set it more specifically because of the computer??

what grade of gas are you running? if it "pings" a little at WOT its fine, butt you do not what it to "ping" just going up a hill on the freeway. unless its a real big one  other than that I'd not worry to much about timming, 4-8 in there somewhere is fine :beerchug:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:
