Another locker question
« on: Jul 29, 2006, 10:16:22 AM »
I drive my rig to and from the trails always, living in Utah the trails are everywhere so my 4runner will get its fair share of street use. It is equipped with a Ford 302 and C4 Transmission. I am getting ready to put some lockers in it, and am wondering what your experience with a quick lock in front and tru trac in the rear. Eventually I plan on going elockers front and rear but I havent found the right deals yet. And I am getting a steal on both of these lockers just wondering how they will drive, traction both on rocks, dirt, and snow.

dont know about the quick lock,  but the truetrac is the best limited slip you can get

i would put the truetrac in the front and forget about it

then  elock the rear

I'd probably do the rear first and go from there.  Do you drive in the snow much?  If so, it would be nice to have a selectable locker in the front as well.

Just save your money and get the elocker.  You don't want to do the same thing twice.

i agree,  thats why i said the truetrac,   its not a locker,  but a gear biased  limited slip,  much stronger  than a clutch pack lsd  but wont cause the problems a locker will on slick surfaces

That was my original plan I was going to weld the rear and save up until I found my elocker. However I am getting the quick lock for free and the truetrac for just under a hundred bucks so I dont think I can really go wrong. Unless someone has seen some good deals on an elocker.

You can't beat those prices, being in Utah and having to deal with some snow and ice patches on the road a locker would be entertaining, the limited in the rear will serve you well in those conditions. Just remember that if you loose traction a quick tap on the brakes will make that limited slip kick in.
