You can run 4.10's but you'll never use 5th gear again.

I guess that's another, "It depends on who you ask" kind of question and what you want.  Some people want the extra performance of the lower gears, while some want to cut back on wear and tear on the engine by reducing rpms over the long run.  I was going to go 4:88's, but now that it's not a daily I am leaning towards the 5:29s.

I can't find the other thread that talks about this.  here somewhere.

KDC runs 35's and 4.88's  On the raod he said it feels like stock (31's and 4.10's).  On the trail he wishis they were deeper, but thas what duals are for!

4.88s with 35s on mine...when it was last on the road. It did pretty well in the mnts.

I am running a 36 TSL Sawmpers and 5:29's with an automatic and a 22RE. It hunts for gears a bit on steep inclines but I can cruise at 70 on the highway.

I chose 5.29 with 35" tires.  That way, I'll have the right gears when step up to the 37's.

If I had to do it over though, I'd be tempted to go with the stronger 4.88 gears.  My more recent modifications include a 190 hp V6, auto tranny, and ultimate dual crawler on my daily driver.  The power and the auto make the 5.29s somewhat unnnecessary and it would be nice to drop the RPMs even further on the freeway for the commute.

If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike
