Problem with spider gear removal...
« on: Mar 21, 2006, 02:19:28 PM »
I am in the process of putting 5.29s and a lock rite in my rear dif.  I have it all torn down except for the spider gear on the ring gear side of the carrier.  For some reason the damn thing will not just slide out like the other side did.  It should just slide right out from what I understand.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Am I just being retardedand not seeing something?  Please give me ideas.

Thanks guys
Andrew

There is a pin in that hole that goes throught the pinion shaft holding the top and bottom spider gears inplace.  You need to nock that pin out and the pinion shaft should slide out, if it doesn't then tap it with a punch and hammer.

So I plaid with the carrier for a while and realised that it is junk.  I got the carrier from a friend and he had blown the spider gears up.  There must be some worpage or metal shards stuck inbetween the gear and the carrier.  So I am just going to use the carrier out of the front axle of my truck.  Now I just have to wait for tommorow so I can go buy a brass drift to get the 3 out of 12 cone washers that are being stuborn.  God I hate cone washers.
