85 front Axle
« on: Nov 14, 2005, 08:18:34 PM »
Well I finally finished up my 85 front axle housing:  shaved, Truss, Ball gussets,  steering stop gussets, AP diff cap.  Now to assemble  4:88 V6 third,  ARB,  Bobby Long 30S axles,  ARP studs for: third member, hubs, steering arms,  4X4 labs reversed high steer,  Sky widening kit.    Then to throw it under the Zuk.

uuuuuuuuhhhhhh....   :headscratch:

 :worthless:
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Well I put the Zuk in the heated garage and yanked out the stock 4:30 front axle.  I have my new housing in place.  Now to assemble.  I have the third in and started the knuckles.  I need to get some inner axle seals as I welded the ball gussets after instaling the new seals.  I need some extra gaskets and seals does anyone happen to know a good place to get the part #'s so as my trip to the dealer will be as pleasant as possible?  I need 2 of rotor seals, each spindle gaskets, each hub gaskets, inner axle seals,  spindle nut washers.  Thanks  Jim

I finally got my inner axle seals and was able to instal the axles.  I also found the IFS rotor hubs I needed for my widening kit.  I have the drivers side cruiser rotor and IFS hub mounted only thing to do is hang the caliper and run the lines.  Then it's off to the passenger side.

got a question about the trunion bearings. that is if you replaced them, how much was the part and how was the installation? i already had to replace the bearing that is on the left side and it cost $200 for repairs in the shop and im thinking about maybe just going to a d44.

Would they also be considered "king pin bearings"?

they're easy to do, most of us don't have a SST so we just shoot in the dark when it comes to knuckle alignment.  most of the time you'll be fine with reusing the factory shims, i like to put an extra one on the top to bring the preload to about 12-15lbs instead of the 4-8 like the FSM calls for.
