I've never heard of this rod before. Untill I started working as a welder. (Harris Super Missle Weld) But, this stuff is freaking awsome! Also VERY expensive. As a matter of fact, the local welding shop told me that 10 lbs. would cost me 250.00.   I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this before? And maybee tell me about a cheaper place to buy the stuff. I'm going to start building some misc out of stainless. And this rod looks beautiful on stainless.

7018 or 5-P is what i've always used.. works fine..


at my old job we used to get alot of sales rep's trying to sale us all the newest welding gear. Guy had some rod he could bend without the flux coming off.. good for welding into hard spots, other then that.. I dont see what else i'd need.

X2...never heard of the stuff...I've always just used Lincoln rod(which is now like $100 for a 50lb box), or Airco rod which is pretty good as well.

I don't know everything about it. But it is a really high nickle content. Pretty much, the strongest rod I've heard of. Also the arc is easy to strike. I work as a welder for a battery recycling plant. So, everything is covered with all sorts of healthy things like lead dust or battery acid. Even with a thick layer of of crap built up on everything. You don't have to worry bout striking an arc. Actually, other than aluminum. this rod will weld anything. Also the penetration is good to. I run it at 40-50 amps on 1/4 inch stuff. And it'll penetrate more than halfway.

Really I just wanted to use it to make a mailbox out of stainless. But thought it would be good for other things. I'd say that about 99 percent of the time, I use 7018

1 of the better rods ive used on s/s would have to be a eutectic 680(they are either a 312 or 309 classification)great for joining dissimilar metals,stronger than low hydro's,i think they are about 150 mpa more than low hydro's!

Use 5p and it'll strike on ANYTHING even rusty surfaces.. gets good penetration and has fairly good strength at 60,00 tensil.

Stuff's fairly cheap to, can usually spot it with the red flux.

5P = 6010.  good rod, i used it a lot back in welding school.  even works great on light gauge sheet metal if you know how to work it...i could've gotten certified on that easily.

Stopped by Linweld today and the guy gave me a book with all the different Harris rods in it. It says that the Super Missleweld has up to a 120,000 tensile. Lots of stainless and nickle in it too. Used for welding dissimilar metals together. It can weld anything.
