3.0 water temperature sensor
« on: Jul 14, 2005, 12:44:26 PM »
I got a check engine code, and it popped up that the water temp sensor is bad.  I have no idea where it is, or what it looks like.  Can anyone give me a hand in what it looks like, so I can replace it??

Hey man, getting to that sender on a 3.slow is a real PITA.

It is located at the rear of the engine, on the lower intake manifold, all the way at the back. I think you have to remove the whole lower intake just to get to it :thud:

according to chiltons, it doesnt say I have to, but then again, it it chiltons :dunno:  I just dont know what it looks like

here are the instructions I have
1. Drain cooling system
2. Disconnect the Engine wire protector from the brakcets if used
3. Detach ECT sensor wiring
4. using a deep socket, remove the ECT sensor and gasket

do the reverse for install

It's alot easier to access with the upper intake off. It's located in a small block that bolts onto the back of the manifold it has I believe a combination of 4 or 5 fittings and sensors in it. Good luck.

Thats where I thought it was  thanks!  I've got a good idea of what it looks like, and I'm going to go pull the sensor off my spare engine

 it works better now.  Still overheats, but I'm gonna replace the thermostat tommorow, and see if that helps.  I wheeled this weekend with the hood off and it was fine.
