Need help identifying differential
« on: Oct 31, 2020, 05:33:56 PM »
I bought a 4Runner from a guy in Arizona a couple years ago and he gave me some parts. One of them was a Toyota 3rd member. I went on some websites that show the 3 and 4 ribs on the 4cyl and v6 housing. Those pictures don't quite match the one I have. It does have a part # stamped into it that appears to be 35140 and 26H. Does anyone know 100% for sure what this is?  See attached pictures.

From looking at the pictures, that appears to be an 8.4" differential found in non e-locker Tacomas, and T100/Tundras.

That’s a really obscure V6 DIff it is an 8 inch, I just bought one of those from the junkyard they come from like a 97 or 98 2Wd V6 forerunner.

Hello all. Been awhile since I've posted something. OK Some quick info on what I've got. '97 runner sr5 with a A03A 3rd member, running 31's. I want to put a Dura Grip in. My research has led me to believe that my 3rd is a 8.4" with 2 pinion. Other research tells me that the 8.4" and the 8" are the same. Is that true?
2nd I'm considering changing my gear ratio to 4.88's. If I do, is it necessary to upgrade the front ratio also.  Thanks for the advice in advance.

98 Runner; OME HD springs F/R, Bilstein 4600 Shocks, Plate Bumpers F/R, Swing arm tire carrier, roof rack, HID Headlights......for now
Future plans: Grizzly Dura Grip,
 Tundra Brake Upgrade, Intake

OP,
If you change the rear gearing, yes, you must have the same gear ratio for the front diff.

Good luck.
