Weber 38dges problems
« on: Jan 19, 2017, 06:51:18 PM »
Bought a new Weber 38 about 2 years ago and it's always been running little rich so tuned it down and got that good but now on a little incline it starts shaking and dies. Like a little incline to.. hard to start back up and blows some black smoke. Another thing it's doing is it starts great after sitting for a couple hours but when I drive it around then let it sit for a couple minutes it's hard to start and blows some more black. When I bought it new i also got the jet kit. Was wondering if it would help it I jetted it down?? Iam just tired of the dieing on little inclines and hard starting after sitting for couple minutes. Anything would help! Please help wanna get this running right so I don't look dumb sitting in a parking lot cranking and cranking! Thanks!
1982 Toyota 4x4, 22r with weber and lce header, 4.88s, locked, 5125 bilsteins around.

Webers can be very finicky.  The 38 especially.  The 32/36 is a better all around carb.  BUT Webers do not like inclines.  That is why most rock crawlers prefer the OEM carb, of using the Weber base for propane.

Sounds like float is too high and it is still jetted too rich

Yes check float level I beleive it is 18 & 28mm, there is also a spec on the needle travel I don't remember, maybe 2mm. What is the fuel pressure?

I've never had an issue with fuel pressure on mine, always run non-regulated.  Only time I didn't run this way, I kept running out of fuel with a holley red pump.  Took off the fuel regulator and went back to being trouble free.   I've run electric pumps in the engine bay and right next to the fuel tank.
