Differences in early vs. late 80's top shift
« on: Feb 20, 2014, 09:27:24 AM »
Just wondering if there are any major differences between an early 80s top shift case and a later 80s top shift case to use for the rear case in a dual application? I know the early case has a clip on the shift rail and I think it uses slightly different gaskets, but i don't believe there are any other real differences than that correct?

Thanks!

My doubler setup used an older top shift case with the clip you mentioned,I swapped in my newer 4.70 forward shift box in but first had to swap the  top shift rails from the older case in.I had to grind a little off the bottom of the cast pieces to clear the gears but the old rails went in my new case with not much fitment ,so I would assume they are not much different between older top shift and newer top shift.I left the c-clip on the rail as well.  ;)
