Comfortable seats, back issues.
« on: Dec 16, 2011, 09:50:55 PM »
Ok, I'm having some back issues.   I love to drive my truck, and here recently, if I drive for more than 15 minutes at a time, I have to get the F*CK out of my rig.  The Sciatic nerve is being pinched, and causes me alot of discomfort in the sitting position.  I got the factory bench, and I was wondering if anybody else has the same issues.  I've seen a doctor, but they really won't do anything for it.  They tell me to do stretches and such, which helps, a little.  They won't prescribe me anything for it.  Just Ibuprofen, which doesn't do anything.

So, I'm wondering who here has back issues?
What helps you?
Is there any seat that helps alleviate the problem?

I don't have as much an issue in my van, because the seat sits up higher off the floor.  But in about 1 to 2 hours I need to stretch my back and hips in the van also.  But because the p/up sits lower, it seems to irritate it much faster.

Prp for the win. I can sit in my wheeler for 8+ hours and not get sore at all, 30 min in my duramax or a stock toyota seat and I'm hurting.

I'll have to give ya a call the next time I'm out in Newtberg/Dundee area Kyle.  I want to see them, and try them out.

Go for it, do you still have my number or do you need it. You could also meet us up at tsf one of these days and ride shotgun for the day if you want.

Still got it.     Just pm me here or the other site, and let me know when you going.  I will have some weekends off toward the end of Jan, and the first part of Feb.  I hate having rotating weekends.

I feel your pain. I have low back issues too and when it gets bad, I have sciatic pain going down my right leg. Mine stems from an injury at work, and then all the miles of running and biking don't help. For the truck, you need to find something with good lumbar support. Most seats, even ones with lumbar control still don't have enough. You are trying to keep your back in the natural curve so that your vertebrae are not squeazing your disc that is giving you trouble.
Ice, when you are laying down helps me, as does stretching and IB in the morning.
On my Tacoma, I put in leather heated seats and they have worked wonders. My 84 still has the stock SR5 seats, and I think I am going to have them reupholstered with more lumber and side support.

One more thing, its not just the lumbar, but also the angle that the seat puts you in, so be careful when you transplant seats to get the right "seated" position.
