« on: Dec 01, 2010, 09:33:51 AM »
I found a 90's 4 runner for $500 and i think it has a 3.4 i was wondering how hard it would be to do a motor swap. What would i have to do?

97 will have a 3.4 5vzfe in it. You will need the 2wd t100 oil pan

use 3.0 3vz mounts if you are putting it in a vehicle that had a 3.o originally. If you are fabbing up your own frame side mounts, I would still use the 3.0 ones because they are shorter.

do the 97 4 runners have a security system that stops the ignition.

nope, that came in 2002 ish. I used a 97 harness and computer to run my 2001 motor, so if you buy a late model enigine you can always do that, unless you live in Cali

Did you run a wire from the starter relay to the starter solenoid?

I think that I am a little confused on your issue but here it goes. If this isnt your problem, its only 15 minutes of my life.  :gap:

There is no provision for the starter trigger wire on the 3.0 harness like there is on the 3.0. The solution is that you have to run your own wire to engage the starter.

Off the starter itself, the large wire goes directly to your battery of course.

The smaller one needs to run into your kickpanel where all the other wires go. I ran my own wire in there by making a small hole in the 3.4 loom going through the firewall.

In there, in one of the stock 3.0 plugs, there is a large black/white wire that is the starter trigger wire for the 3.0. Verify with a multimeter, but I think its the only black/white wire there. This is downstream of all the clutch override system so there is no need to mess with any of that.

The wire from your starter needs to get wired together with this black/white wire in the kickpanel ALONG with another wire leading TO the STA pin out of the ECM so the ECM knows that you are cranking the motor.

MAD Photoshop drawing skills below.

***EDIT***Just realized how old this was. Oh well.......I'll leave it for future searchers.

What I'm trying to do now is find a compleat wiring harness for the 3.4. I was going to try and make the stock harness work but there is way to many wires for me to make sense of.i was hopeing to find someone that had a harness so all I have to do is plug in my computer a ground and power
