i never carry a spare tire on my rig due to weight.  My truck gets trailered almost everywhere it goes, so my spare tire is almost always with my tow rig.  The only time i ever have my spare in my truck is when I drive to the trail and back and don't trailer.

Hard to carry a 39.5" spare.  It also adds an extra 140lbs of stuff.  I carry a tire plug kit and have OBA.  So far, it's worked.  I do have a 37" spare just to get me off of a trail but I've never packed it.  For now, it stays in the tow rig.

Same for me i really just bring it for the extra weight :gap: ive never spun a bead or popped a tire, i just keep an eye out for the valve stem.  I mean its up to you, i bring extra parts and a spare just to play it safe.

I always carry a spare, of course they are DD's so it is a need to have deal. Plus if I didn't carry one I'd get a flat for sure so it is my anti-flat insurance policy. I carry a bag full of plugs too.

I've always carried a full size spare for whatever tire size I was running at the time. Currently a 35x12.50 bfg mud terrain on a 15" rim. Also always carry a tire plug kit.

i wish i had the money to buy a spare, plugs are cheaper and with enough of them can fix more than you would think. if all else fails i have slolyfe to borrow from or drive it out on the rim

Thanks for all the replys, they were interesting. I also always carry a spare for piece of mind but also any TLCA sanctioned event requires it.

I almost never have a spare in my 4Runner when I'm not wheeling.  I have AAA to tow me home if I get a flat and it would prevent me from carrying my subwoofer.  When I'm wheeling I remove almost all of the stereo gear and add off road equipment including the spare tire.  It's about the only spare part that I carry.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

some times the spare tire gets to be to large for some vehicles (42" swamper) to carry. if you rip off a valve stem you can carry spares to replace. or if you pick up a nail. you can plug the tire. if you rip the side wall... well... if you have all the stuff to do a good patch job you can brake down the tire easy enough.
