Topic: swap my 22r for a 22re

Hey I was wondering if I could swap my 22r for a 22re but I live in cali an have smog would it still pass or could I just swap the efi an just put the carb on it or would it be ezer to just rebild it ?

yes, you can swap a 22r for a 22re.  you don't even have to go to the ref. for it.  i did mine about 5 years ago and took it into the ref.  he told me  i didn't need to because the truck came with the option of a 22re(mine's an 85).  I asked him to look it over anyways if he didn't mind and he did.  everything passed except for I didn't have the dash pot on the throttlebody.  the swaps not too bad to do either.

Oh dose this apply for 87 too cus that's what I have I'm pritty sure it is cus everytime I go to autozone they ask if its efi

I just passed mine by the ref.  He didnt say any such thing with mine. Mine was an 81 tho, only had 22r in that year.  My ECU for my EFI said 22r on it, he tried to tell me i was using a carbed ECU for an EFI motor!
