I have 93 toy pick with 22re in the truck atm  with 5speed  and just did a timing chain  and found some stuff wrong from the last person that had the moter apart.  i did not have the time to fix   so i was thinking  of just getting a junk yard moter or reman   and prep it for a quick drop and go.

BUT I would really like to upgrade to a 3.0.  I know i need a wire harness/rad/mounts and comp.  But i don't know about the bolt-up to tranny   or 100% sure on the  different drive line parts.  I notice on the site parts differ on 2.4 and 3.0.

so i could use some advice in this department. The truck is my every day driver / play on the weekends  so everything i do has to be after work or take a week vaca + on a budget.

Why not look into doing the taco 4cly swap? (look up bigmikey's biuld, it's sweet!)
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

It would not be worth the trouble. Keep the 22re or swap something besides a 3.0.

Why not just rebuild your 22re ? A well built 22R will out perform a stock 3.0 any day. Not to mention it will withstand WAY more abuse and get better gas mileage.

Got to agree on stayin away from the 3.0. It would be a huge pain, for little to no gain. Build yourself a strong 22R.

No Power

I also have to agree that a swap from the 22re to the 3.0 would not be worth it.
If you are going to go V6 check out www.offroad solutions.com for their 3.4 swap.
I think you would be better off with a built 22r.

I am running a stock 3vze motor and although a nice motor i wouldnt swap it in ...

why not get a checy V6? Cheaper and easier to do ..

ozzy93xtra

yeah man i got a 3.0 and it ain't worth  :twocents:  compared to the 22re gas or powerwise. a Toyota is so light you only need a 4Cyl. even with bigger tires you will be way more satisfied with a 4 Cyl than a v6. you could not give me a 6Cyl to trade for a 4Cyl. period. dont do it :beerchug: . even if its Free. :reg: =v6

I believe the correct term for this swap is.....pissing in the wind

I wouldn't say pissing in the wind.  I did the 3RZ swap and have to say while its not power monster, it is a good swap for anyone wanting more than a 22RE will put out.  The 3RZ motor seems to be more responsive than the 3.0 with the same amount of power and gas mileage the rivals the 22RE. And because it makes its power around 3000 its great for the freeways.  However there are no kits for it that I now of. This is were the 4.3 swap starts to look good, as there are plenty of people that have done it and lots or resources to draw from. Not to mention that if you are power hungry you will start with and beable to do more with the 4.3.

TR: Did you ever figure out your fuel mileage issue?

I finally figured out my mileage and I'm getting 17-18 in the city and 20 on the highway.

from a 3.0 owner and driver, DONT DO IT!!! I like mine, and it seems to have decent power, and its reliable,  but it just isnt enough of a difference from the 22re for the time and work you'd have to put into it.  I will do a conversion eventually, and it will probably be to a 4.3.  The 3.0 just isnt worth it the work involved IMO

While the 3.slow as you put it isnt a power house..its still more cpapble than the 22re.  Granted the 22re will last longer.  Iy wouldnt be worht the swap though because the power difference isnt that great.  a 3vze swap would be the one to do..and supercharge it!

hmm i dont think the 3.0 heads would hold up to supercharging,
now the 22re converted to rte with boost controller, upgraded fuel delivery, 3" exhaust system, and intercooler- the 22RTE will put out in excess of 350HP, at about 25 psi!
