New to Toyotas
« on: Jan 18, 2011, 09:42:08 AM »
Hey guys I'm totally new to toyotas so bear with me here. I've wheeled the snot out of my samurais :eyebrow: and heeps :stopit: . I'm running over to the coast today to pick up a 1992 4Runner with a 3.0, 5 spd, SAS, with 37" Irocks, and 5.29 diffs.
As of right now, I searched and found that I most likely have the R150 trans and a chain drive t-case. I'd like to either have a single case with lower gears or dual cases. The runner supposedly is coming with a used gear drive t-case. Is there any way to
A. get lower chain drive gearing for the stock case
B. Add the extra gear drive t-case to the existing chain drive unit (in front or behind the chain drive unit???)
C. Donate the chain drive unit to my buddy to use with his boat and shell out a couple grand to put two gear drive units in there.

Ultimately I want it to be reliable and relatively inexpensive (i.e. do it once!)

Thanks in advance for the advice...

BTW I live up the hill from Fresno so I may just bring it in for a brainstorming session with one of the guys at the shop.

You can add a case to the chain one, you can get rid of it and get 2 gear cases. Just go look at the store part with transfer cases and it will kind of explain the options you have.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

I beleive having dual stock cases will slower than a single w/ 4.70.
