The 4.37's worked OK for me but I did upgrade to a 22r/20r hybrid and a 5 speed. I was definitely a little weak on up hills but worked well offroad with the 5 speed.

Mine is, or was, a hybrid.  It's nearly a hybrid now, being a .60 over 20r block (that was sold as a rebuilt 22r) and a 20r head, but the block I had previos ran stronger than any other 22r I've seen.  Even friends who had toyotas thought it had some work done to it.  I am still running the 4 speed though, so I'm working a little harder on take off.

Im runnig 33x10.50x15 mounted on 15x7 with 3.75BS and on my stock 81 and the cleaedr no prob till I did 1" wheel spacers up front now they just barley rub and full stuff/lock
