I was wondering if 33 in tires will fit on a stock 1980 toyota pickup 4x4, or would i need to do a shackle lift which will give me an extra 1.5 in.

I fit 35's on mine with no lift.  I got 33's right now and I already clearenced everything for 35's (Cut and beat fenders.   ;))
Stock 82 LWB on 33's welded in the rear.  Amazes me!  Been through 4 motors in 2 months though...

i dont have rims yet just stock, im looking for the best size tire and rim to use without cuting fenders and without rubbing. Thanks

What kind of driving are you looking to do? :driving:

Should be OK with a little clearancing of the seams in the wheel well. I had already lifted mine on 31's before I went to 33's. I did have the same up travel as a stock set up and did rub a little here and there.

Definitely depends on your backspacing of the wheels, but I ran 31s for years without a lift with no rubbing, then went to 33s and they rub like mad.  I've clearanced some but they still rub at certain points of the turn.  Bottom line, you will have to do something to make them fit well.

I want to do rock crawling and have it be a daily driver.

33s fit on mine with minimal only rubbing at full stuff.  They didn't run too bad on the highway but I am mounting up some 31s for better gearing. The inch of clearance gained by 33s wasn't worth the somewhat poor highway gearing in my opinion.  If you are willing to regear though go with 33s for sure.

Ok so 31s will most likely be better, and if I do want to lift and put 33s what gears should I use so I will be able to go speed limit or a little faster on the highway

Nimyad

no 35s will be better
do 3 in of lift so you can run high steer, move your axle forward so you don't have to do any fender trimming. 4.88's with 33s and 5.29's with 35s.

DFryou22

i want it to also be a daily driver so if i had 35s with 5.29s running a 4 cylinder 20r what kinda speed would i be able to get

H8PVMNT

35s and 5.29s would feel just about like a stock truck with stock 28" tires.  You will keep up with traffic just fine.

What he said. I had 5.29s with 35s in my 81 with 22r and i could go 80, usually cruised around 70-75

DFryou22

alright damn that sounds good, what do u think the best kind of 3in lift is that wont cost to much and how much would it cost for the 5.29 gears.
Thanks

DFryou22

sorry, but im new to all this stuff so where could i get all this stuff or does marlin crawler have it all. and all help is much appreciated thank you.

Nimyad

Well a ruf is your rear springs moved to the front, it's recommended that you add some more springs to it but i didn't for a long time. Chevy 63s can be pulled out of any 88-98 chevy half ton at your local pull and save.

DFryou22

the leaf springs right? and that will give it a 3 in lift?

Peterbuilt84

I did ruf and chevy 63's on my 84. Depending on how many leafs and what combo of springs you use in your front pack you can adjust the height that way.

I also set up my own 5.29s for about $200 with new yukon gears and bearings.

The major vendors are Marlin Crawler (obviously), Trail Gear, and All Pro. Check out the vendor section on pirate4x4.com too. Lot's of good vendors over there.

DFryou22

If I regear to 5.29s will I have to regear the front and the rear or just the rear

Peterbuilt84

Front and rear. If your just getting 33's I wouldn't worry about regearing honestly, 4.10s shouldn't be that bad. I ended up getting 36's which is why I decided to get 5.29s.

DFryou22

Idk yet if I am goin to run 33s or 35s but if I don't have to regear with 33s I will probably run that for now

kneedownnate

He has 4.37 since it's an 80, and it's a bit of a struggle with 33s.  Around town is fine, but freeway or a little bit of a hill will really slow you down.

H8PVMNT

I agree...  I ran 33s with 4.37 for about the last year.  It's doable, but smaller tires or lower gears is way better on the highway.  With 33s and stock gears you can't hardly pass and any amount of headwind just kicks your butt. :)

DFryou22

So I will have to regear to 4.88 for 33s

kneedownnate

Not really, but you should regear for 33s.
