Can a forward-shift t-case be used for duals?
« on: Sep 29, 2010, 10:02:29 PM »
Im planning on putting up a W56 tranny, and a 4.7 case. So im thinking what the hey, Why not dual cases too?  So i may be able to get my hands on a forward shift t-case for cheap, will this work for the single shift W56 A/B and to turn into a front crawl box? and if needed are there any shifter adapters?

You will need to convert one case to a top shift.

Okay thx is it possible to make a dual adapter using a front shift t case and frnt shifting trans? or does it have to be a topshift t case for the front crawlbox?

The rear case has to be a top shift, the front can be either a forward or top shift.

So if the front case is froward shift, does my transmission have to have the double shifter, i.e. W56 C,D,E  or can it be the single shift w56 a,b?

Really overcomplicating it. Use any trans that came from 1979-1995 in 4 cyl equipped 4x4s, l series, g series, w series, or r series. Altho with r series, ive read the needs to be clearancing for 23 spline, but not 100 percent on that. The rear case muts be a top shift case. The first case can be whatever ur case was before u swapped in duals. Read the instructions for duals all the way through, and it will show you why the rear case must be a top shift.
