Oh cool , what's up Eric ?  . I'm talking about the Deep Creek in Hesperia , come to think of it , it was kind of a party spot . I remember we ran some trail there back then and found a rattler on the trail . The trail seemed pretty extreme to me back then  :talkingn:  . I have pics from the last time we were there , it was Ernie , Nestor , Kevin , Scott and myself . Crazy thing is there was a white shortbed Chevy with us that day that belonged to Andy who I hear is no longer with us . That was a long time ago , good times for sure . Let me know when you guys are gonna hit the Hammers   .

Yes ! , I have pictures of that truck . It had 36" Good Year Military tires and a grey fender . So Andy was your bro , sorry to hear . He was a really cool person . I remember the black Toyota 4x that was later rolled too . That was before the Chevy , right ?

Oh man that is bad ass ! ! , I loved that truck . Last time I saw it it had fiberglass fenders and BFG Mud terrains if I remember correctly . Loved the way that truck sounded .

You love those Rancho traction bars don't you...  :eyebrow:
If I remember correctly it was just a Downey header with the big down pipe and a three chamber flowmaster. I'll try to find the picture of it from after the accident- looked like a crumpled beer can, tire torn off the rim, the works. He rolled it on the 15 fwy going about 90, the witnesses said it rolled 6 or 7 times.

So my 87 22RE has been making the dreaded t-chain rattle for about 10 seconds after a cold startup. I pulled the valve cover to take a look, the plastic guide looks intact, so I guess it's the tensioner itself? what do you guys think? the first pic is the guide, looks okay. The second pic is the tensioner side, you can see a gap of more than 1/4", like it's going slack after the oil pressure drops.

Hell yeah , those were it back then though . I remember hearing about the accident from Ernie . I remember that thing had a rear Detroit , didn't it ? . Dude back then if your rig had at least one locker it was pretty built .

I got one for ya . Left to right , Nestor , Ernie , Me , your truck , Kevin and Scott . Can't really see Scott's rig because I had to zoom in on the pic . That was my black 87 with 31" BFG muds . When I sold it I had put a 2" body lift on it , 32" BFG muds and a centerforce dual friction clutch  :talkingn: , I thought that truck was built and apparently I thought I was ripped  :rofl2: . This was in about 1995 I believe .

If you look carefully you can see the TDS stickers on both Scott and Kevin's rigs . They were the first ones I knew to go to that run and I started going a couple years later and haven't missed one yet .

Time for some updates!

Here is the frenched hanger I originally used when I SAS'ed it. It caused issues with the sector shaft on the steering box, and also made the wheel travel in a diagonal angle.  The steering box could have been moved, but the only soloution to the wheel travel was to severly limit uptravel, to the point of needing to raise the lift, which killed the whole point of having a frenched hanger in the first place, so...

I trimmed the front crossmember to fit a regular Marlin drop hanger on.

I got the hanger on, moved the axle forward an inch, mounted bumpstops, and moved the shock towers. Paint and finishing touches on Saturday morning, then took it over to the ditch for a flex test and some poser shots.

hey I really like your build. Are you still running the RUF springs? If so what what year rears are you using? Could you post a few side shots so I could check out your hanger location and shackle location and angle?

I am in the middle of doing the same thing to my 87 extra cab. I am fixing a SAS that was already done. I also just got the dual adapter from marlins year end sale.

keep up the good work it looks great.

That is a custom diff lock indicator that I built into the cluster, similar to the brake light and 4wd indicator. I used an open spot, and scraped off the black layer. then I had a sticker cutter guy make a reverse stencil, stuck it on there, wired it up and bam! I will try to post some pics of the process for ya.

Thanks man! I'm still running the RUFs, they are the rears from this truck, mixed with another set of toyota 4wd rears that looked identical that I got off craigslist. I will try to get some side shots for ya. My front shackles are 45-50 degrees.

I just got back from my first trip out since June, we got a pretty good snow dump and went out after work. Truck worked great; no issues, lots of fun!

Nice build. The front diff lock light is a very nice touch. I have a "anti-lock" light that I was going to use for my rear locker.  Just block out the "anti" part, but a sweet stencil job like yours and it could be way better!

Dig the HALO avatar too!

Thanks guys. You gotta do the diff lock light, I don't want to be the only one!  :psss: I know a guy who has a couple extra stencil stickers.

My rears are All Pro 6", with frenched hangers.
