Checking In
« on: Nov 30, 2009, 07:22:18 AM »
Just checking in.

Guess I can tell a little about myself and my rig.  My name is Allen and I live in Huntsville, AL.  OK, enough about me, I'm sure more are interested in what I wheel with, so here goes.

In May of last year (2008) I bought my first 4x4 after many years of riding along with others.  After helping my friends with their rigs (Chevy's, Nissans and Toyotas) I finally decided to pick up one of my own.  I wound up buy a 1982 Toyota SR5 pickup off of Craigslist for $800.  Naturally, for $800 the truck was not yet fully off road capable, but, I paid the man cash money and drove the truck home, so I figure that in itself made it a worth while deal.  One bonus feature the truck had, a spare top shift t-case sitting in the bed of the truck (anyone see what I'm thinking already?)

The biggest problem with the truck was that the rear portion of the frame was heavily rusted and in need of REPLACEMENT.  That meant that I was going to have to spend some serious  :flamer: torch time.  I have already replace the entire rear frame with a custom frame and flatbed + headache rack.  I did however have to have some fun before I did that and took it wheeling a couple of times.  I would up ripping a rear spring hanger right out of the frame.  We did a trail fix and drove the truck back home that night.  Two weeks later, I cut off the bed and the entire rear frame, saving only the driveline and brake components.  I'll post some pictures shortly in the Rig Gallery or Builds section.

One of the things that I noticed during my first few trail rides before the frame completely crapped out, was that the carb was extremely annoying with it wanting to flood and die or get starved on the hills.  I rectified this problem by calling Cary @ gotpropane.com  and converted over.  I couldn't be happier with the way it runs now    .

I decided to join up on the forum today b/c today is the day I buy my MC07.  I'm going to be buying that while it's on sale along with a 4.70 gearset and twinshift set.  My better half is actually buying me the 4.70 for Xmas and I'll get the twin shift after Xmas debt is paid off.  I hope to have the cases rebuilt and and the MC07 installed and wheeling by mid Feb.

Anyway, that's me and my rig.
