Tacoma Prerunner Auto tranny to manual swap....anyone?
« on: Dec 14, 2004, 11:44:05 AM »
Kicking around the idea of doing a manual tranny swap down the road. I only have 4500 miles on mine and simply HATE automatic trannies. Plus I tow often enough to want to be able to put it whatever gear I want and roll and not worry about over heating or something going wrong.

So what I am thinking off the top of my head would be. I did this on a 2nd gen PU a couple years ago, but they were much simpler.

5 speed, clutch & flywheel out of a 2WD Tacoma or will another model work? (don't want or need 4WD or plan to do an SAS)

    Pedal assembly

Clutch master & slave cylinder, hard lines, etc.

    Redo the crossmember I assume

One other thing is the computer thinking it still has an automatic. On the older ones it was a separate computer and could be removed without an issue. On the Tacomas I assume this is not the case.

I heard a rumor the new 05's can be had in double cab, V6 and a manual!!! If this is true, I will truely be pissed off.

or I will have to sell the 4runner and give Jodi the 04 and me another  :smack:

Yes, you're correct.  The new ones can be had 4 doors, 2wd and manual trans.
