r151 in a 89-94 pickup
« on: Jun 18, 2009, 05:32:21 PM »
I'm installing a r151 trans in my 94 truck with 3.0 engine. The shifter is located farther foward than the r150, which makes the shifter appear that it will hit the dash. Has anyone put a r151 in thier 89-94, if so what did you do about the shifter if anything.

I just put one in behind a 22re and yes it did hit the dash. I used a cutoff wheel and cut 7/8 of the way threw then bent it where I wanted and welded it up.
I also have the 4wd lever leaning toward the driver side. Does your r151 do this as well? On my g58 it leans to the passenger side.

I had thought about making the shifter like marlins, so that will be what I will do. As far as the transfercase I will convert it to a top shift if I can.

dogleg the shifter, you can do it yourself or send it off to marlin to do it

Thank you for the reply.
Now I just have to decide if I like it set up that way, it is a little bit more of a reach but I gain leg room.  :headscratch: At least I know they make the rubber boots with that offset so if i keep it that way I don't have to use a sweat shirt like I am now  :gap:
