Duals crossmember!
« on: Mar 20, 2009, 10:56:00 PM »
I have wrangled up enough money to take the plunge and order my duals.  I am getting 4.7 gears, r-10, and thinking about a twin stick at the same time.  However, I am up in the air about a crossmember.  I don't like any corssmembers I have seen yet (looking at the FROR type) I know I can buy a center section and make my own, but I don't really like the center section that they offer either.  Anyone know of other companies that make a similar center section?  I want a single bushing right at the t-case, not one at each frame rail (looking for something similar to a stock set up).  If anyone has anything it would help!
thanks

Wow, thanks for the link to that sight, I have never heard of thos guys before!

This is more what I am thinking.

I want my cross member and my skid plate to be two different things!

This way I can remove the skid to change oil, and things like that, and I don't have to remove the crossmember!

Thanks for the help!!!

I used allpros with the ebrake conversion. Kind of a pain in the ass to install but once its in I love it! It just uses rubber bushings so it added alot more vibration. But also have not broke a motor mount since...

That is a really nice crossmember. However, I would like to keep my drivetrain more traditionally mounted on a "three point system" instead of a 4 point.   With a "4 point system" you transfer all of the torque and twisting that the frame sees into your drivetrain.  I also understand that the extra torque of doubles adds LOT of stress to the mounting system, but I think that it should be up to the motor mounts to stop the torque, not the crossmember.

I know BIGMIKE and others have broken a crossmember in a "4 point system."  I believe this is because a 4 point system does not let the motor mounts do their job (let the drive train move separately from the frame).

However this brings up a new problems, lets face it the stock yota motor mounts don't cut it the way I wheel now with stock gearing.  Since I need to keep the motor mounts the more ridged part of the mounting system, I will need to up grade my motor mounts.  I am thinking something like this.
