82 alternator
« on: Aug 21, 2008, 06:13:58 AM »
Ok... I am installing a new painless harness on my truck and am having problems figuring out the alternator wiring. I am keeping the factory alternator with the electronic external regulator. The alt. has the 3 prong plug and the regulator has the 5 wire plug. To make things difficult the painless harness just has a ignition hot, exciter wire and the large battery wire that goes to the alternator.

My question is how do I make it work??? Anybody ever put a painless harness in and run into this?? My prob is figuring out where do I hook up the exciter wire thats in the harnss??

Any help please...
Thanks Jason

Oh ya...Im not using any of the factory gauges or indicator lights if that helps any.
