knuckle, brakes, and studs oh my!!

needed to rebuild the front end so heres the parts

88 4x4 v6 calipers

fj rotors

knuckle rebuild

new bearings and seals

arp studs in the knuckles and hubs

hub rebuilds


after 4 or5 trips through teh con and 2 through fordyce....and a few subaru smashings, my marlin umo6 marfields still look new minus a thin layer of rust on the shafts!

heres pics of the before...and tear down...had a broken trunion bearing  :shudder:

ok heres an update....

big thanks to glen for some last minute tips

i stripped all the spooge, old paint off the knuckles and repainted them rustolium semigloss black

I don't miss that part of the Toyota front axles.  I rebuilt mine last year and I don't plan on touching it for another couple  :greengrin:

well, after a few weeks im still very happy with the large brakes, with the fj80 master it pulls down to a stop quickly, even with the heavy toyos

i unfortunately cannot recommend using that kit again. it had no steel parts in it.

definately go with marlin or allpro

What do you mean by that? The only metal parts are the shims, star nuts and oil seals..the rest is felt, rubber and paper....what kinda (brand) bearings did they give you?

they didnt include and of the anodized steel parts for the wipers. they bearings where...um RSK

you mean the half moon things  that hold the felts  to the back of the knuckle ??  Marlins kit didnt have those either, 

they did have  Koyo  bearings though

when i called marlin they said they said they dont sell that steel ring between the felt and rubber with their kits.  we ended up buying the whole sets of felts and rubber from the dealer just for those.

that may be true now, but 4 years ago they sold em

I just looked at Marlins, Sky, All-Pro, and FROR sites, none of them show them in the pictures. T-G and Inchworm (same kit as TG's have them). I bought the kit from TG once, the trunnion bearings are no-name bearings and on the frist trip on them I broke a top bearing and screwed up a 30-spline Long.

I have made a habit of not throwing away anything until I am finished with a job and rolling down the road.
