2l Diesel Hilux Compression
« on: Feb 18, 2008, 11:27:09 PM »
Ok the book says that the 2L diesel motors nominal compression pressure should be 455 psi, minimum 284 psi and the maximum variation between cylinders of 71psi.

Cylinder 1 is 500 and leakdown is 8%
Cylinder 2 is 350 and leakdown is 30%
Cylinder 3 is 440 and leakdown is 26%
Cylinder 4 is 500 and leakdown is 10%

So cylinder 2 is way out of allowed spec and cylinder 3 is borderline.  :rivers:  :shudder:
Can someone please help me understand what this means for the engine and if I can rely on it or not.

It means it's time to upgrade to a 3L or 1kzte :gap:

Money is tight now. Will it break tomorrow, or six months, or six years? I know thats a hard ask but I dont know what the practical issue is with these results?

chances are the head gasket is leaking,  but  it could be a leaking valve,  as long as it runs  and starts good  and the oil  doesnt mix with any water  RUN IT

but keep an :eye: on the oil and  coolant
