87 B2600 motor swap
« on: Nov 30, 2010, 09:51:37 PM »
hey guys, im about to do a motor swap in my pickup from a 2.6L motor to a ford ranger 2.9 v6, and im just wondering would this motor work with my electronics that are in my pickup? and will the stock bell housing, drivline and rear end work with this motor or do i have to trade them out for different ones. Im wondering cuz my stock motor is about to hit the fan and die and while im not driving it try to find a replacement motor. Any help would be greatly appriciated thanks again guys for the help!

wow... this is mostly a yota sight you know that right lol...... well anyway i know a bit about rangers and mazdas and i can tell yea for #1 - the 2.6 and the 2.9 are COMPLETELY different engines... absolutely nothing will interchange...
#2 - The 2.9 is.. for the most part..  Crap also..  they are like 3.0 yotas... some run good, some dont, but they all will have problems eventually...

if you got the engine, drivetrain, wiring, all that stuff (pretty much a donor truck) then go for it.  But if not, you would be alot batter off going to maybe a Mitsubishi 3.0 v6...IIRC you can re use the factory transmission with a differant bellhousing...

or for that matter you could also do a ford 3.0 or 4.0 swap (looking at the same parts as a 2.9 with alot better aftermarket and parts availability)

on a side note. If you located around me (Oregon coast) i know someone who will buy your dieing engine ;)
Those are some huge welds!

my bad didnt know this was mainly a yota site which i wish i had lol. and thanks and im up in washington lol. so i should probably do a 3.0 swap. i just want something that i can get bigger tires on and haul quads and such and get way better gas milage, with my motor right now im gettin like 12 mpg which sucks hella and that truck just needs a different motor in it. why o why did mazda put that motor into those pickups they are nothing but a pain in the rear end. also what year 3.0L should i drop into there?

but only thing is i would like to keep the same tranny and rear end and if i have to change the bell housing that shouldnt be hard at all lol. thank god for some of my auto tech training. and id probably have to find a 60 degree to get it to fit in there. then i would like to try and keep the stock electronics on my pickup and thats where i run into problems lol.
