There really isn't an answer for your question unless you give us more information. Where to you plan to wheel your 83? Rocks, mud, trails? IMO the 5" lift is too tall for a 1st gen. The 3" or 4" lift with some trimming will keep your center of gravity nice and low and better for most applications. Tell us more about what you are looking to do and you will get more opinions on your tire choice. ;)

And finally, post a picture of your 83 :worthless:

i'd go with the 12.5  unless your in pismo constantly. They're better mpg. They're ussually cheaper. and 12.5 is still pretty wide, it's just not the widest.

X2.. 5" is too tall.  i'd suggest the 4" because even thought there is trimming, it's not too bad but either the 3" or 4" could work.
and picture picture picture!  the 3" would be a hack fest.. if your into that stuff

get laughed at? have you seen how ugly some of the rigs are here? my zebra 87 4runner for example. you will need 15 posts before you can post pics, but if you provide a link (photobucket.com for example) then we could see the pics. most people here are in the process of building their rig, some are completed and bad ass, some mildy built, some stock, and some that need quite alot of work. we're not like pirate over here, we dont treat people like crud because of what they have or the questions they ask.

on that body style i know a 35 will fit with no trimming and a 4" lift, larger will require some trimming.

So here is Marlin's truck on 37s and 4" springs. It looks like he trimmed and tubbed the front fenderwells (very common) and also trimmed the rear fender openings. As said above, don't worry about posting pictures of your 83 here.  :therethere:

If you are in the rocks you want a tall tire to give your difs the most clearance as possible. The 12.5 wide tire is taller than the 14.5. A good "bang for your buck" tire that a lot of people run is the 36X12.5X15 Irok on an 8x15" wheel.  :twocents:
