What's a split wheel
« on: Oct 15, 2007, 03:07:03 AM »
Why do the Toyota's in OZ have these kind of wheels? What's a split wheel? I think they kind of look cool  :screwy: anyone ever seen a set in the states?

That is the same design that is used on some big trucks. The outer lip on the rim is split and comes off the wheel to make it easier to change the tire.

These are dangerous as they will sometimes slip off when aired up causing a decapitation or other serous injury.

It is not that hard to change a tire on a regular wheel and not worth the risk.

Split rims are nothing!  Ever try working on a widow maker?  There was no ring to hold it all together.  Just a series of notches or bumps in the middle of the wheel!  I'd work on a split rim anyday over a widow maker wheel!  There is a reason this wheel was band from being serviced!
