IFS question?

I just bought this 91 runner and it has an auto locking front dif. Not a locker, it just engages the front as you put it in 4wh. Can I take it out and replace it with a non auto lock dif. And then just add manual hubs to it? I am not sure how reliable the auto lock thing is.

the hubs and the diff autolocks you refer to are not the same thing... for the diff, it just mean it is engaged, as in the tcase is providing power to the front diff.... the hubs are another story all together....

I am with you. I want to replace the dif with autolocks, with a standard one. Can I do this? What do I use for bolts for the cv axles. I want to get ride of the studs used to hold the cv axles on (easier to remove later). I will also put on some manual locking hubs.

Should I remove all the studs in the diff and replace them all with bolts, to make replacing the cv's easier. Or should I just take two out. Does that make it easier?

just leave the studs in there.  Trail fixes aren't that hard with them  :thumbs:
