Shock hoops on a '79
« on: Dec 30, 2006, 07:44:53 PM »
Well, I got to play around with my beater truck today, and found out that it's missing a passenger front shock, and the upper shock mount  :sad2: . The welding beads on the frame is where the previous owner did something, but apparently it didn't work since the mount isn't there anymore.

I'm in the process of fixing the worn out springs and lifting it about 3", and was thinking about doing some long travel shock hoops at the same time. Anyways, here's my questions:

1. Would the Marlin short hoops be plenty, or should I go ahead and do the long hoops?
2. Do the short hoops work with stock-like shocks (thinking < 8" travel)?
3. If I go with the long hoops, will I need to modify the inner fender wells?
4. How hard are these to install? Looks just like a pretty standard welding job to me.

Thanks in advance

I run the short travel hoop's with 14" travel shock's. It all depends on how you want to set up your suspension. I have about 6" of rod showing for compresion and the rest of the shock for drop. It work's out good for my set up.
