fj 40s in El Salvador, Good God!
« on: Oct 20, 2006, 11:28:14 PM »
I jut recently returned from El Salvador, Central America and did i see Fj 40s up the ying yang. one question, they were all deseals. I was going to buy a 71 Fj but after some shady paper work i decied it was not in best best interest and that of the 5grand. Is it worth bringing one back to the states? Also were they made in diesel?

We were the only ones who didn't get diesel runners.  They're not horribly powerful, but have good torque and are very reliable and stout.  If you could have one imported cheap enough I'd say do it, but a better idea may be lining up more people who want them and see if you can get a discount or something.  Check with your local dmv though, importing vehicles and getting them registered can be a huge pita.

from my understanding importing one that old would not be an issue at all.  Its the new stuff they dont want late model imports competing with new cars here and hurt. you should be able to import 71 EASY. I forget the year cutoff its either 20 years or 25 ... i think its 20 years imports become very easy. Anything newer than that is more difficult.

actually the diesels have the Hj and the Bj designations.  Fj is for the gasoline engines
