1ton guys, Master Cylinder?!
« on: Aug 27, 2006, 07:38:54 PM »
Curious all you guys running 1 ton axles, are you using the stock toyota MC?  or something else?

If so... what are you using?

If stock.. are there any mod's/ tricks you had to do to get a decent brake?

I worked mine for 8 hrs today with no luck... the front has brand new calipers and brake pads... new steel braded lines front/rear and the rear's got new valves for the drum brakes on the 14 bolt.

Had everything tight and working "decent" then the driverside rear valve decided to blow (yea it was old soo..)  I replaced it.. bled the rear brakes again and tightened the adjustment so that the tires were hard to turn on both sides... pull it out and still have a real mushy pedal, have to press the pedal close to  1/2" from completely to the floor before it compresses the brakes.

thanks for the feedback, i'm going to check into that GM MC off of rockstompers web-site.

the valves that I put on the rear are an 1/8" smaller then stock, I had a feeling the toyota MC wasn't pushing enough fluid through the lines so I figured this would help but unfortunantly it still has a spongy pedal... i'm going to go back through everything today... if everythings fine but it still has no break i'll be upgrading the MC.

no clue what the deal is with this brake ordeal...

I think the booster isn't keeping pressure in the lines or something... when the trucks off it feels like it has a good stiff pedal but once it starts up the pedals gone.. have to press it nearly all the way to the floor before it will do anything.

got a friend that has a 85 22re sitting so i'll be pulling the MC off that and mounting it to mine to see if the booster is infact bad or leaking...

The booster doesn't keep pressure on the lines.  It's only function is to assist in applying the brakes.  If you have stiff pedal with the truck off, and no pedal with the truck running, your booster is fine; it's job is to make it easier to push the pedal.

I think your master cylinder is not supplying the volume to make those big brakes function.

I'm using a chevy 3/4 ton master. I built an adapter to mount it to the toy booster. It's a pretty simple swap.
