Topic: Parking and getting back to tow rig for MC5

Hey guys,
    I'm driving down from Eugene, OR and need to know the best plave to part my tow rig. I will be camping at the KOA in Placerville on Thurs evening. Ideally I'd like to drop it off somewhere close to the end of the trail and just drive the sammy to placerville. It's street legal so that's not a problem. That would also make it easy to load up once it's tome to go home on Sunday.

The other option was parking it at Rob's Valle Resort (http://dorobbs.com/lodging.html). But I don't know the best way to get back there from the end of the trail. Can some of you let me know what you are planning on doing and whay my best options are?

I will be parking my tow rig and trailer at the trailhead at Loon Lake... Long's you lock it up it should be fine

Loon Lake is the very beginning of the Rubicon Trail.  I will park my truck there and wheel in, then wheel my Amigo back out through Loon right back to my tow rig.

Sweet, sounds good. I think I may plan the same thing. THat's a nice looking amigo too. I looked through your build up thread. A friend of mine just picked one up. I'm trying to get him to do a SAS on it...

Elotsip - I don't know about that. Wheeling the 'Con in both directions seems like it would burn up a LOT of time as opposed to just driving around. Espeically with running into traffic. Isn't that going to make for a really long Sunday, considering we are going to be driving back to Oregon Sunday!

You'd only have an issue if you go all the way to Tahoe, as long as you turn back from the springs you'll get back to your rig, go all the way through and it's a long highway drive back, and which would you want to do?

its like a 70 mile highway drive from the tahoe side to the placerville side

If your plan is to just drive the trail to get out and not to play on anything, How long does it take to get from Rubicon Springs to the Loon Lake Dam say on a Sunday vs Rubicon Springs to the Miller Lake

I'm just thinking it would be faster to just drive out to the Tahoe side and around back to the tow rig then going back through the trail??? From what I remember - Isn't it all pretty easy going from Observation Point out.

Sure I would like to get as much trail time as possible but my plan is to also drive 8-9 hours home on sunday evening.....

I was told that I should part at the Ice house because its gated and survalnced area that thye have, and supposedly they don't charge much to do it either.  I don't want my towrig messed with by leaving it at the trailhead.  I've been told horror stories about doing that.

It's a lot closer to park if you have a tow rig, on the Tahoe side and drive down to Cadillac Hill to the springs. I plan on camping at the springs on Thursday and wheel Friday and Saturday.

Why not leave your tow rig in Tahoe and drive to the trailhead from Ice House? That way when you drag your sorry broken ass off the trail you won't have far to go to your trailer, but since most of you drive Toyota's they won't be broken anyways.

I drove out sunday last year from the Springs to Loon.  It did not take long at all and i didn't even see anyone else from the Springs to Buck Island. 

I am going to park either at the Loon Lake spillway or at the Loon Lake challet or whta ever it is called.  Both places will have a bunch of tow rigs there so i wouldn't worry about your stuff being broken into.  Nobody i have ever gone with has had there tow rig's broken into.
