Chevys with marlin crawlers????
« on: Mar 01, 2006, 12:23:53 AM »
I keep hearing of more and more chevys with the Marlin Crawler dual case set up, what I'm wanting to know is how are they holding up? I have not been able find any info. on this. I am currently considering this set up for my chevy (350 to t400 on a d60 and corp 14 on 44 boggers). Any info. would greatly be appreciated, thanks.

Had dual toy case behind a 350 with a 700r4 and loved it.  Lighter than gm case and never heard a peep from them.  Held up to my abuse.  Tranny ran full line pressure so shift's were violent.  I would recommend 23 spine inputs if you do it.

that sounds like a sweet set up red chevy girl...welcome to marlin..and to answer your question

i helped build a toyota in high school that had a blown 327(about500hp) a turbo 400, mated to dual toy cases, 21 spliners at that.
i personally whitnesed four whell burnouts (38 inch tsls), jumping of the truck, and 135 mph freeway sprints...that was in 1998, they are still going strong..no rebuiulds or problems to speak of   rock the toy cases!!! but do a 23 spline just to be safe

Awesome, a full size is definitely my next build, nothing like a full size on the trail.
Looks like you put her through her paces, great rig.

How about some specs, IE: springs, axles, drivtrain, etc...

Well currently I have a Dana 60 with a 14bolt with 4.56 locked with a Detroit in the rear and a powerloc in the front in has stock rear springs with blocks and huge fire ladder shackles. In front there are superlift 6" springs. The axles are sitting on 44" boggers on Bart beadlocks. Engine - 350 with a edelbrock 1904 carb w/ the off road kit in it. Tranny - Th400. Current t-case is a 208 (part of why I'm looking at the marlin dual case setup). Steering is currently crossover from rock equipment, but that will be changing to full hydro steering as soon as i can find a set up that will work.

I have been wheeling this chevy since 1996, there just seems to be less and less body of it every year.  :beerchug:

way to go, I like it you've got the same running gear that I'm putting in my rig here soon.  Those military axles?  Sure sounds like it with the setup.  Got mine setup that same way. I'm going to be running the dual marlins as well in mine.  but I've got it all under a toyota so little less weight you could say.

I got those axles out of a 78' diesel military chevy down in AZ the kicker is I only paid $50 for the set and the catch to it was i had to remove them. As far as the weight thing I'm trying to decrease its weight but well see there isnt much more i can take off before I have to start tubing it which will bring the weight right back up.

Also forgot to mention I have a cute little 84 toy. Nothing to special about it. It sits on 35"s with 5.29s locked in the rear and a posi in front.
heres a pic of that one. And no I didn't put the keystone can in the window I would have put a coors can there.

hyena'  good pic of rocblaz at rubicon . as for red chevy girl . i think i've got one of the first duel cases with a 4.7 gear for the full size . i've only broke the 4.7 gear twice in the seven years it's been in . once at cal rocs competition at donner pass .the other was pulling a 3/4 ton suburban threw 4 feet of snow . on a snow resue this was the best investment i every made .i've got three yotas with crawlers which i have'nt broke yet blazer runs threw the hammers 4 to 5 times a year  / rubicon 3 / 4 times a year. plus competitions. 2004 did real truck challenge. these cases r the best .                                                                                                                     just remember these cases r for crawling not racing  .                                                                                                    they won't hold up on a full size if u abuse em to bad .
Ultimate dual mini truck cases! What a test!

Yup, that is Louie's rig from the Oakhurst Wicked Wheelers club. He has a caburated 350 > T350 Auto > :turtle: Dual cases with :turtle: 4.7:1 gear set (Ultimate). I believe his low range is around 180:1 or something like that.

The Toyota Cases have held up really well. He installed them like back in 1998 or so. I know he has broke one output shaft and thats it. That Blazer is so heavy its crazy. Hes got 42" Irocs and I witnessed him bust a 35-spline D60 axle at the Little Sluice last year, break a front driveline (sheared it), and twist his rear driveline (candycaned it). Seriously, he broke a front and a rear, and seriously he carries a spare front and rear dline. He carries so many parts on that beast-

Louie's an awesome guy and loves to help out anyone on the trail. That truck is really cool and he is never afraid about the Toyota drivetrain  BTW that truck also competed in the Top Truck Challenge last year, but he had lots of trouble with his ram steer and finished in 4th or 5th.

Nice truck RCG

hey rocblaz you got any more pictures you'd be willing to post.  I think thats so awsome to have the toy cases behind a 1 ton running gear.  I don't think I"ll break to much when I do mine because I won't have all that weight since it'll be in a toy
